The Houston Montessori Institute (HMI) was founded in 2012 at The Post Oak School to train Montessori teachers in affiliation with Association Montessori Internationale, Amsterdam. For ten years, HMI offered courses for adults who wished to become teachers at the Primary level (for children between the ages of three to six) and those who wished to become assistants at the Primary and the Elementary level (for children between the ages of six and twelve). HMI also provided workshops for Montessori educators.

Montessori teacher training centers have evolved in the past decade, especially since the recent necessity of online learning. A new model of training centers has emerged featuring a larger, central training location and operation, with satellite locations, both nationally and internationally. These large training centers offer not only multiple training options but also scholarships, international student assistance, alumni and learner services, professional learning communities, blogs, podcasts, articles, and videos.
